Mokelumne River Garbage Cleanup

I mentioned at the last meeting that I came across several piles of tires that had been dumped along the side of the road between Tiger Creek Afterbay and the Highway 26 bridge.

There are two piles of truck tires (one pile of 13 tires, one of 14 tires) located 0.8 & 0.9 miles upstream from the Highway 26 bridge.  There are also a few other odd items strewn around.  An old couch near the whitewater takeout and a mattress near the pile of tires closest to the Highway 26 bridge.

Caples Creek Shocking 9-09

Rich Lobrovich, Cindy and I joined other volunteers from Trout Unlimited and other fly fishing clubs to assist the Heritage and Wild Trout Program with their electro-shocking of Caples Creek 9/8-9/10.  They split the group into 3 smaller groups and broke the creek down into three sections.  Unlike the shocking in November of last year we only did a single pass this time, though we covered a lot more water.  The flows were too high for the block nets to stay in the stream.  The flow was at ~30 CFS compared to 3 last November.

Angler Survey Box Installation at Electra Road September 12, all day

If you are interested in assisting AFF, Trout Unlimited and an Eagle Scout candidate with the installation of the four Angler Survey Boxes donated to AFF, please email Gary Slade, gslade at sullygroup dot com or call at 209-295-4667.

The project will involve assisting the Boy Scouts in installing four Angler Survey boxes; three along Electra Road and one near Tiger Creek. A contractor will dig the holes and we will install the boxes in cement. Cement will also be poured down the pipes on which the boxes are mounted.

Regards,

Gary

Truckee River Day

NCCFFF Club Presidents,

It was so great meeting all or most of you last weekend up at Lake McCumber. I hope some of you were able to brave the cold and wet weather and actually get out to hook up with a few nice fish.

To follow up on a conversation that I had with many of you, attached is the Tahoe Truckee Fly Fishers/Trout Unlimited grant to the Conservation Board of the NCCFFF, which I presented in short detail at the meeting. Based on the NCCFFF current funding freeze (at least until after October) and the timeliness of this project (scheduled for mid October), the group thought that a different approach might be appropriate while still meeting the same basic needs of the project.
