Jon's been fly fishing and tying flies since 1972 and is a California Licensed fly fishing guide, published author, educator, innovative tier, and public speaker-giving fly fishing presentations to fly fishing clubs and expos across the state of California. His Dad, Bob Baiocchi, was inducted into the Federation of Fly Fishers Hall of Fame in 1999 and was a big part in helping Jon hone his fly fishing skills at an early age. In 1979 Jon began snowboarding and was one of the pioneers of the sport competing professionally, starring in major films, and involved with research and development for clothing and board manufacturers. Jon now owns and operates Baiocchi's Troutfitters guide service In Northern California where he has a reputation as a hard working guide that's been trained by some of fly fishing's best known anglers. His locations for guiding include Lake Davis, the Wild & Scenic Middle Fork Feather River, Frenchman's Reservoir, Eagle Lake, the North Fork Yuba River, Lake Almanor, The Big/Little Truckee Rivers, and many secluded creeks in Eastern Plumas Co. Jon's philosophy on fly fishing is to keep it simple, be confident in your presentation, and have fun! His favorite game is stalking and sight fishing to large trout in shallow water whether it is a river or a stillwater.

2013 Arroyo Seco Bass Outing

Amador Fly Fishers held their 3rd Annual bass fishout at a private pond on the Arroyo Seco properties on Wednesday, May 1. Attending were Charlie Moore, Gary Slade, Tom Shirley, Barbara Price, Gary Swager, Jimmy Dixon, Rob Hodgson, Art Weatherford, and fishmaster Dennis Larson.

Fishing started out slowly, with little top water action. What action there was, was primarily poppers. Others used long leaders or slow sinking lines and stripped with damsel fly imitations. Actually anything dark olive green.

At noon we broke for a tail-gate lunch consisting of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas and bottled water. The afternoon bite was slightly better but everyone was off the water by 3 pm.

Largest bass were caught by Gary Slade and Art Weatherford (14 inches).

The weather cooperated, sunny and warm but not hot, and a good time was had by all.

Caples Lake Iceout Fishing Reports

The first fishout was on Wednesday April 10.

Art Weatherford and I had breakfast at Deer Ridge. Barbara Price joined us just before 09:00 and we headed up to Caples. We got to the Woods Creek fishing access driveway just before 10:00. It was then that Art discovered that he had forgot his wading boots. He didn't try to fish without them and left shortly after arriving. Little did he know that by not bringing his boots was probably the best thing to happen to him that morning.

Barbara and I fished at the Woods Creek inlet area for about 3 hours and never had a strike. Not to be skunked, we headed back to Silver Lake. It was looking pretty good so we fished it for an hour and neither one of us had a strike.

Stink, stank, stunk and skunked.
